CALENDAR OF EVENTS - OCTOBER 2009

07 – 11 October 2009
The 2009 Ubud Writers & Readers Festival is a little more than a month away as it gathers momentum towards the presentation of a rich array of panel sessions, readings, book launches, literary lunches, nighttime gatherings and workshops. This year’s theme “Suka Duka: Compassion and Solidarity” will beckon some of the finest writers from 23 countries to discuss the themes of religion, identity, the legacy of colonial brutality and the postcolonial voice, human rights, race and identity, exile, gender, censorship, literary expression, families and love.

13 – 15 October 2009
Held at Ayodya Resort Bali, Financial Crime Asia 2009 – Symposium and Exhibition, is designed for financial analysts to be able to better understand and examine the financial crime activities. The program will develop the skills and expand the knowledge of participants and allow them to better understand the money laundering cycle or phases, compare and contrast the financing of terrorism and the money laundering cycle, define financial intelligence and describe the sources of financial intelligence and how it is collected / analyzed and disseminated.

Galungan is a holy day celebration, as to commemorate the victory of “Dharma” (virtue) upon “Adharma” (evil) based on the mythology of “Mayadenawa” the demon king who was involved in a war against God Indra’s troops. On this day, a tall bamboo pole decorated with young coconut leaves, flower, fruit and cakes is stuck on every house entrance and make a marvelous sight along the village roads symbolizing prosperity throughout Bali.

This year Nusa Dua celebrates the 13th edition of its famous Fiesta, organized by BTDC (Bali Tourism Development Corporation), supported by all the hotels in Nusa Dua area. During 5 days, the visitors will enjoy some performances of art, culture, sport and exhibition and participate in fun games. The specific theme, “Green Tourism”, recalls the importance of the protection and the preservation of the overall environment to maintain Bali as a pleasant and clean tourism destination.

Kuningan holiday is the last day of Galungan celebration and is believed to be the ascendant day of the ancestral holy spirits and Deities to heaven after sojourning for several days on this material world. On this day, special offerings consisting of yellow rice and special dishes are offered while every compound and temple is decorated with ornaments made of young coconut leaves and flowers.
